The main campaign of the game is a lot of fun but don't expect much because it is not very long at all. But there are many things you can do like merging (transforming with) with gun turrets and raining fire on enemies and then ripping off the turret gun and taking it with you. The highways tranform in front of you as you speed through them. Huge boss fights! Plus you can do online co-op for the campaign which makes it worth replaying it many times. The game story is in chronological order with the decepticon campaign first and then the autobot campaign but you can start whichever one you want first.
The multiplayer is where the bread and butter of the game is. Lots of fun there. Don't expect much from being able to customize your own transformer. Customizing really consists of taking an already made robot(basically an original game character) and changing their color scheme. Then you choose their abilities, upgrades, and weapons. You have four different classes as you might already know. Unfortunately some classes only have one robot chassis you can choose from depending on if it's autobot or decepticon. For example: There is only one autobot (soldier class)tank in the game so for that class on the autobot side you only get that one chassis to choose from while other classes get three or four to choose from. Decepticons only get one (leader class) truck. But hopefully they will have some DLC and add more characters... I really hope. Aside from that downfall the gameplay experience in multiplayer is incredible. Only eight maps though but hopefully they will expand that too. The different classes are somewhat well balanced although the scientist class (jets) are a bit underpowered. You will spend most of your time in multiplayer with this game. Team work is highly encouraged and is what will work best for you to win and not get slaughtered.
Sometimes it can take a long time to get into a game and other times you get disconnnected easily. But I think that is a server issue on the PSN. I don't know about the XBOX Live side but I have heard simsimilarings. Hopefully they will address this issue and fix it. There is no host migration like in Modern Warfare 2 so when the host quits you get kicked out of the game. And the lag can be a killer sometimes.
There is also an escalation mode which is kind of like zombies in Call of Duty or Horde mode in Gears of War. You and your online team against wave after wave of enemies. It can be fun and frustrating at the same time.
As for the game in general: Good graphics. The eviornmet feels like cybertron and it feels like you are in a war. The robots feel heavy and make heavy sounds like a loud thump when you land after a jump. Explosions could have been a bit better though. The sound effects are great. Like the weapons and especially the good old traditional G1 cartoon transformation sound which is slightly unique with each character. The controls are a little weird at first but nothing you can't get used to after a couple of hours of play. Plus I recommend the second setting on the controllers (triangle for transformation) so you don't transform accidentally from pressing the left thumb stick. The gameplay itself is a lot of fun. Transformations are very fluid and fast and just look cool. Unlike the Revenge of the Fallen game where you have to hold a button to stay transformed you can transform anywhere and anytime. Both vehicle mode and robot mode are usefull for fighting and navigating the enviornment. You have weapons in vehicle mode. So you can stay in whichever mode you want for as long as you want and still be effective. Your choice depends on the situation and your strategy. You can choose to fight or transform into your car and zoom through the battlefield to a safer zone.
Overall a good game. I think it could have been better but for their first attempt at this type of game I think they did good. If you are a transformers fan and like 3rd person shooters or any kind of shooters then defiantely get this game. Otherwise then pass on it. I hope I answered your question well enough.Questions for people who have actually played transformers: war for cybertron? No competing with baron's review. Anyways, I give it a 9/10. Gamespot had a prejudiced review against TF ( i think ). GET IT. great graphics, long campaign ( about 12 hours ), nice but sometimes laggy online,
Incredible feel and story to it.
